Gilman, Cicely

I was born in Boulder, Colorado. In 1968 we moved to Vienna, Austria. Living in Europe has influenced my life and artwork. I graduated from St. Martin’s College of Art with a BA and Honors degree in Textiles and Fashion in 1979. After living in New York City for six years, I moved to Los Angeles, where I took up silk painting. Much of my work is inspired by Fine Art and Folk Art. I often use mythological themes, but have branched out to abstract experimental techniques. I have expanded my art works to include watercolors, acrylic and oil painting, photography, jewelry, and doll making. Along with membership in the Surface Artist’s Association, I am active with the Arroyo Arts Collective.
